A pure CPU-mined chain without bells and whistles can still pull in the old-school crowd if you treat it like an experiment rather than a product launch. Start by publishing the full genesis block and mining params on Bitcointalk and low-traffic mining Discords, then run a public testnet for two weeks while logging actual hash-rate distribution and node uptime; those numbers will tell you faster than any poll whether people care. Keep updates strictly technical (difficulty adjustments, orphan rates, sync times) so the signal stays clean.

Early retention usually comes from giving miners a reason to stay beyond the first week, such as transparent rotation of test rewards or simple on-chain leaderboards that reflect real work. Avoid any token talk until you have at least 50 consistent nodes.

The no-feature approach is refreshing and probably the right filter for the audience you want. Most chains add complexity too early and lose the people who actually run nodes.
