Most operators think Meta's algorithm picks the ad with the best ROAS and feeds it budget. It doesn't.

Inside almost every ad set we audit, 50-90% of spend is concentrated on the 1-2 ads with the lowest CPM. Cheapest to deliver, not most profitable to you. The auction is solving for delivery efficiency because that's what keeps the marketplace liquid. Your margin is not in its objective function. This is why the same pattern shows up over and over: a punchy hook ad eats the budget, a higher-AOV creative that actually converts gets 4% of impressions, and the ad set plateaus. People blame the creative. The creative is fine. It's being structurally starved. The engineering fix is boring and works: stop stacking creatives in one CBO ad set and hoping the optimizer sorts it out. Isolate proven winners into their own ad sets with their own budget so a cheap-CPM neighbor can't cannibalize them. Then read your own delivery data — not the platform's recommendations — to decide what gets scaled. Advantage+ gives you a floor. Treating it as the ceiling is what caps the account. submitted by /u/yourdrona [link] [comments]
