Rewriting the first 7 words of every post 3x'd my reach on X. The pattern, with examples.
Post original
I ran a small but consistent experiment on my own X account. Same ideas, same posting times, same follower count. The only variable I changed was the opening line. Reach roughly tripled. Here's the pattern, because it's free and works without any tool. Founders kill their own reach in the first seven words. The scroll-stop happens there or not at all. The flops almost always open with a setup phrase: "Most founders…" "Here's what I learned…" "As a founder, I…" "In today's world…" Those are throat-clearing. The reader's thumb is already moving. The hits open on a concrete specific instead: a number: "Cut my onboarding from 6 steps to 2 and activation jumped 40%." a moment: "A user emailed me at 2am to cancel. I called them. They stayed." a named thing: "Stripe's checkout wall was costing me every signup." The mechanism is simple. Specifics imply a story or a payoff. Setup phrases imply a lecture. One earns the next line, the other gets scrolled. The drill that fixed mine: write the post, then delete the first sentence entirely and start from sentence two. Nine times out of ten sentence two was the real opener and sentence one was warmup I didn't need. Pair that with one idea per post (cramming three is the second biggest reach killer) and you're ahead of most people posting daily. What openers consistently work in your testing? Curious whether the "delete sentence one" trick holds outside my niche. submitted by /u/7hakurg [link] [comments]
