I will not promote - Search becomes the product much faster than founders expect

One thing I've learned from building platforms with large content libraries: The challenge usually isn't storing the data. It's helping users find the right thing in under 30 seconds. Most founders think about features first: Uploads Dashboards User accounts Analytics But once you have thousands (or millions) of assets, users stop caring about features and start caring about discovery. A few things we've seen repeatedly: Search quality matters more than adding another feature. Metadata structure becomes a business decision, not just a technical one. Poor categorization compounds over time. Every shortcut made during ingestion eventually shows up as a user experience problem. The interesting part is that users rarely complain that "search is bad." Instead they say: "I can't find anything." "The platform feels slow." "I'll just use my own system." In reality, those are often search and data organization problems. I've started viewing search as a core product feature rather than infrastructure. Curious how other founders think about this. At what point did search or data organization become a major bottleneck in your product? submitted by /u/SwordfishSpecial9673 [link] [comments]
