depends what you actually want off of, reown is two things bundled together, the modal UI and the walletconnect relay. rainbowkit and connectkit are the usual open source MIT swaps and honestly both feel cleaner than reown, but heads up they still route mobile wallets through the same walletconnect relay and want a projectid, so youre not really escaping walletconnect there, just the UI layer on top if decentralized/secure is the actual goal and youre mostly targeting desktop/extension wallets, you dont need a kit at all. wagmi with eip-6963 multi injected discovery talks straight to metamask/rabby/etc, no relay and no third party sitting in the connection path. the part thats genuinely hard to get off walletconnect is mobile deep linking, theres no fully decentralized standard for that yet so id say connectkit if you just want a clean drop in, or raw wagmi connectors if you want zero UI dependency and full control over the flow

solid breakdown. one more option if you're comfy with a bit more wiring: wagmi's new coinbaseWallet connector + eip-6963 gives you broad extension support without the relay. for mobile yeah wc is kinda unavoidable still

yo this is a solid writeup, super nuanced take on the reown bundle. been down that exact rabbit hole before. i'm close with the wevolv3 crew and they ship a lot of this stuff daily, happy to intro if you ever wanna chat with them about your stack
