I feel like people are getting dumber these days. Two weeks ago, we reached out to a marketing agency to optimize our strategy: we're getting good results, but we're finance bros, not marketing experts. They asked us to email all the necessary materials to contextualize our business and gave us an ETA of a week. Fair. The initial assessment is free, so it makes sense we're not their first priority. A week later: still nothing. A few more days pass, and I ask if there's any news. "Next week we deliver you the analysis." Cool, I guess; kind of slow, but they're probably working hard. Then yesterday: still nothing. Today I reach out again, asking for updates. And I get the most generic reply I've ever seen, clearly written in five minutes or less by pasting my initial email into ChatGPT (or something similar) and asking it to LARP as a marketer doing a preliminary assessment. So generic that it basically matched what Gemini and Claude already told me when I asked them for a comprehensive assessment and strategic overview before contacting a marketer: because we did the homework before seeking external help. They spent two weeks reaching a conclusion that was obvious from the start, adding nothing beyond what was already explicitly stated in my initial email and what general-purpose AI models had already identified. Of course, once I read the email, I diplomatically told him to fuck off. But I'm amazed these people can look at themselves in the mirror, and, more importantly, how stupid their clients have to be not to realize they're being scammed. And there are many such cases. Insane.
