the moment you realize your early sales success was just a performance
Post original
I have spent a lot of time watching technical founders try to scale their early revenue, and the breaking point is almost always the same. They build something valuable, they tap into their personal network, and they pull in their first ten or twenty customers through sheer force of will and existing trust. Then they decide they have product market fit and it is time to scale. so they buy a list, plug in an email tool, and start running cold outbound. And absolutely nothing happens. The instinct is always to blame the list, the market, or the tool. but what i have seen is that the problem is rarely the leads. The problem is that they are trying to pour water into a bucket with no bottom. They never had a sales process to begin with. They had a performance. When every deal relies entirely on the charisma of the founder to drag it across the line, you cannot hand it off to anyone else. you cannot measure what is breaking because you are improvising every conversation. It is like trying to drive a car faster when the engine block is not bolted to the chassis. pressing the gas pedal harder does not make you go faster. It just makes the pieces fall apart more violently. I am curious if anyone else has found themselves in this specific phase. When you moved past your first few network wins, did you try to scale activity before you had a structure to hold it? submitted by /u/Own_Introduction21 [link] [comments]
