AI recommendations are the most ignored acquisition channel right now. I scanned 50 businesses to prove it.

Founder here, sharing data from an experiment plus the tool I built for it, full disclosure. Everyone is fighting over SEO and paid ads while a growing chunk of buying decisions now starts with "hey ChatGPT, what's the best [tool/service] for X". And almost nobody is optimizing for it, because there is no console, no analytics, nothing. You cannot see the traffic you are losing. So I measured it. I ran the questions real buyers ask through ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini for 50 businesses and SaaS products across 20+ categories. What the data shows: The same 3 to 5 names get recommended in every category, consistently across all three AIs. The winners are not the best rated or the biggest ad spenders. They are the ones most cited on comparison sites, listicles and niche blogs, the sources AI models actually pull from. Anything launched in the last 2 years is basically invisible. Zero mentions, zero awareness that it is even happening. The growth angle: this is early SEO all over again. The gap between "nobody optimizes for it" and "everyone will" is exactly where the cheap wins are. Getting cited on 3 or 4 of the right pages can flip you from invisible to recommended, because the AIs have so few sources to pull from in most niches. I turned the experiment into a free scanner so you can check your own category: enter your product or business, it runs the real buyer questions and shows who the AIs recommend instead of you: www.belistedonai.com Curious about two things from this sub: has anyone here deliberately engineered AI mentions yet? And which categories do you think are still wide open? submitted by /u/FragrantAstronaut513 [link] [comments]
